1.) Role Description -Due to ongoing growth and expansion the Hervey Bay Independent is seeking a Newspaper Editor committed to retaining the region’s independent voice while offering an alternative to the doom and gloom of daily offerings. The position would suit an up-and-coming graded journalist with a passion for his/her craft and the ability to drive an award-winning newsroom through leadership and on-the-job training.
2.) Essential Criteria -Editors are expected to have more understanding and responsibility for marketing and revenue, and to produce quality newspapers while the proportion of their editorial staff deloyed to revenue-raising work is increasing. The new environment creates fresh opportunities, with rewards for imagination and energy – but core professional values in journalism must be maintained.The successful candidate must have experience in metropolitan or regional newspapers, must be prepared to remain hands-on in all aspects of newspaper writing and production including pagination and sub-editing. You must be able to inspire other journalists through leading by example.
3.) Desirable Criteria -
The Hervey Bay Independent is the Fraser Coast region’s preferred weekly community newspaper with a philosophy of presenting a positive reflection of the community and businesses it serves.
