Demands

Questions.

  1. Look through The Rabbits, find an example of a demand and an offer. What is being demanded/offered to the viewer in each of the texts? That the big statue of the rabbit is like a leader or somone that has built the city for his fellow rabbits and that thhey made the city by taking over the land of the aboriginals.

Social Distance / Angle

Questions

  1. Find two examples of where angles are used in The Rabbits. What meaning do they create? One example of the picture is the front where it looks like a very big stronge city that had taken years abnd years to make and that the leader has helped them run the country. In the picture that I am doing, it doesn’t show any other angle the the frontal, because it is showing you the whole city infront of you.

Modality

Questions

  1. The modality of The Rabbits is high, the colours are bright and strong. Why do you think this is done? The colours in the picture is bright and dark and that it starts off as bright colours and which could mean that they are a happy city enjoying there time but when u start looking furthur into the picture u see that that the colours go really dark meaning that that is where all the bad things happen and that maybe it is where the owners of the land come and try to take back the land.

  2. Is there evidence of illumination? What might this suggest?as I said in question one the birght could mean that the city is a normal city and that they have not done anythingy wrong but when u look in furthur to the picture u see the brightness of the colour go dark and adark. The big statue rabbit is holding a globe which represents the the world which means that they are the people that dominate the world and that in the the other hand it shows the staut holding a type of sword which could represent the strength of the city like when that had defeated the people to have the land and build a city

  3. How would you describe the background? Why? In the background it is like a a very dark place that they don’t really go to and that it looks like heaps and heaps of factories and that it is where all the weapons are being made etc.

1. Representational Meanings

Who are the participants and what are their relationships to each other? The participants are the rabbits and they are a clan that have taken over a land and built a city and have built towers and factories and a statue of their leader.

Vectors/Reading Paths

Questions

  1. What first attracts your gaze on your image? I see that the rabbits have made this city for them to liv in and that they have the full control of that land and no one could take over the land.

  2. Can you see a vector (line) that suggests a relationship or lack of relationship between the participants in the image? What does this suggest about their relationship? Why? Yes the statue of the rabbit has surby lines and parts of the city like the road and aaaaaaother areas in the city as well.

  3. What significance might the reading path have? The signifcance of the reading path is the group of the rabbits came and took ownershipof the lzand and made it there own.

Symbols / Motifs

Questions

  1. Is there a strong symbol in the text. What might it symbolise? One of the first things that you would notice is on the DPS is the tall buiilding in the background and the aas that the rabbits are living which means that the rabbits have taken over the land just like the europeans did against the aboruiginals

  2. Notice other smaller symbols surrounding the central image, what might the composer’s message be? Some small symbols would be the factories and the smoke which is where the rabbits are working and to get food so rthey can live just like the europeans did to the aboriginals and had taken away there food and drinks so they can live.

  3. Colour is also symbolic and creates powerful connotations. What do you notice about the colours used in the image? Can you suggest why there might be strong contrasts in the colours? The stronge colours in the picture shows that the city is a pretty powerful place that is ruled by the rabbits which are the whit men, which they control because the white men took over the aboriginals land so they can live in it and make it theirs.

READING AND UNDERSTADIND – the rabbits

Posted in english/history/geo on March 11, 2008 by thaouchab

1. In groups (or as a class) read The Rabbits

2. Discuss what the meaning of the book is

the message of the book is to symbolise that when the europeans came to australioa they had taken over the land o9f the aboriginals just like it really happenes a long long time ago. 9T is also showing that the eauropeans had one the land with out talking to the aboriginals about it and that they did not respect the aboriginals culture and on how they livee which made them liv out side when the europeans had built their houses with fences and if the aboriginals had resspast then they would be shot and killed and it would happen every time. Part of the book symbolises the myall creek massacre on how the europeans kill the aboriginals and also take the children that could have the white blood to be taken to a white family.

3. Make a list of some visual techniques that you think help creat these meanings -Eg: Colour, participants, setting- :

List of visual techniques are: colour, texture, all the pictures have been exaggurated for examoply, the rabbit are in a suit and the land with the scultpur of rabbits and the big boat looks like a rabbit etc. the tone and shading of the pictures are light and dark, the use of shapes, the change of settings likefrom the land into a war then the end of the war.

4. Discuss what you think colours represent in this book:

the light and bright colours give a mix message because they both represent t5he happiness and the great times of the natives known as aboriginals but which also represents the power and glory of the rabbits which are the white men. the darker colours show death and loss which occurs in the story
